Library Selection :: You Are Your Child's First Teacher

Bean's preschool handed out copies of You Are Your Child's First Teacherduring our first parent evening of the school year. I read it a few years ago, but I'm slowly working my way through it again.

"One of our primary tasks and our children's first teacher is to provide them with impressions of the world that appropriate for them to copy. ... We also need to strive ourselves to model appropriate behavior..."

I love this concept of modeling behavior and actions worthy of imitation, and am reminded of this when I see an experienced Waldorf parent or educator going through everyday life in beautiful ways. Wiping off a table in a calm and loving manner is a practiced skill! That, and maintaining rhythm are still challenges for me, and reading inspiring books like this remind me to be mindful in all these 'little' ways.
